OOAK Painted Ponies:

I started painting the "Paint Your Own Pony" (PYOP) from the Trail of the Painted Ponies (TOPP) series in late 2006 and I haven't looked back since. As an artist, this was a great way to broaden my horizions and open my market up internationally. The trail began in the United States of America and has become hugely popular the world over, now breaking into the Australian market as well - while the One of a Kind (OOAK) ponies are relatively unknown to the Australian public, they are a huge success in the US, and are very saught after items when painted well.

I am also a member of the "Artist's Association of Painted Ponies" (AAOPP), a US founded group of talented artists who paint the PYOP kit. This is an invitational only group in which a high standard is kept - we are a group whose purpose is to bring together Paint Your Own Pony artists who share a love for pony art and have a common bond with other artists in this type of art; and who strive for excellence and quality in their painted ponies.

But enough talk - here is my small and slowly growing collection of ponies I have painted:

Borrogong; Painted 2007

"Boorongong" meaning 'Hunting Grounds' in Aboriginal, portays the setting for this one in a million piece - with tracks trekking across the horse of Aboriginal footprints, Kangaroo footprints and Emu footprints creating the grounds of native Australian creatures which were hunted animals for Aboriginal tribes.

Corroboree; Painted 2007

When the Aboriginals of Australia moved from campsite to campsite, they would often hold a Corroboree – painting themselves and partaking in a tribal, native dance in which their spirits were mentioned and involved in their tales. When they moved, they would burn the landscape, so that when they returned, new re-growth and regeneration would have taken place – this is how the native Australian bush regenerates itself.

Thus, this Pony has been painted authentic earthy tones, and is involved in a tribal dance of his own; complete with a spear in his mouth (the spear is removable so it does not get damaged while shipping). Dancing over the dry, dusty terrain that is outback Australia, complete with rocks. The markings represent the campsites across the landscape – and the footprints are aboriginal, and dingo tracks (as the dingo was their “domestic” companion, per say).

This guy had also been made a realistic stallion – ie: he has stallion genitalia.

Meteor Shower; Painted 2007

First of a series of four night sky stallions - the next stallion will be "Milky Way" to give you a sneak preview of what is soon coming.

"Meteor Shower" has a beautifully resculpted mane and forelock to really set him apart, and is equipped to be a real stallion (ie: sculpted bits & pieces). The 'comets' are SS6 (2mm) Swarovski Crystals, giving him a true sparkle when the light catches them. Gorgeous piece - photo's truly do not do him justice; simply stunning.

Inspired by all those "once every million years" moments that you always seem to miss for real - the night sky has always brought me peace and serenity. The four stallion collection brings together a beautiful array of night scenes that are carried on the back of a truly majestic creature - the horse. The stallion, always known for their strength and protection, brings the same sense to these scenes.

Pink & Grey Galah; Painted 2007

This guy is without a doubt, my best achievement and took me months to do - He is also one of my favourites, as I'm sure you can see why! The Australian wildlife is reknown for being gorgeous, different and unique, and the Pink & Grey Galah is no different. With his stunning Pink and Grey coloring and that gorgeous crest that stands up when he is showing off or defending himself really adds this bird's gorgeous look. The Pony has the same crest, scuplted along his neck with pain staking detail.

He also has a newly scuplted tail, 'feathering' along his jaw, elbows and all four fetlocks and those gorgeous wings attached. He was then painted in a variety of acrylic paints, pastels and water colored pencils. One of my favourites and one I dearly miss. Stunning though, isn't he?
